Albergaria-a-Velha has a strategic location in the context of pilgrimage, both on the way to Fátima and the Way of Santiago de Compostela. Dowing to its geographical features, it has been an almost compulsory place of passage for pilgrims since ancient times.
The Portuguese Way of Saint James crosses the territory of Albergaria-a-Velha for about 14,5km, along which the pilgrim can count on the support and hospitality of its people, tasting a great diversity of local gastronomy.
When pilgrims on the Way of St. James arrive in the municipality of Albergaria-a-Velha, they can choose to follow one of two signposted routes of around 4 km until they reach the centre of the city: the one called the historical route, which is more urban, coincides with the old Estrada Real and parts of the current EN1 and IC2; the other, which is more rural, crosses a forest until it reaches Assilhó, combining nature with the tranquillity of walking the route.
The MAJESTOSO HOTEL offers perfect accommodation to rest and regain strength for all pilgrims.
